I needed a 25' x 70' piece of EPDM liner. That's 1,750 sq ft... times .95 cents = $1662 Plus shipping... Yikes!
So, brilliant as I am, I figure I can save some money. A 100 ft roll of 6 mil plastic for $36 was a no brainer. Afterall, I could replace that plastic a bunch of times for the price of that liner!
WRONG! What was I thinking!?!

The plastic under the waterfall wasn't sealed or secured very well. A leak developed. In this part of Florida, that's not good.
A sinkhole developed under my waterfall. The weight of the water pushed the plastic into the hole... any part of the plastic exposed to the weather, degraded, cracked and fell apart. What a mess. The waterfall had to be redone; no easy task... those rocks are huge and heavy.

After some research online, I finally found the liner for .51 a sq ft. I gladly paid the price. (Now i think you can get it for less that .40 a sq. ft.) Weeks were lost in the repairs and clean up. Finally, my 500 lb chunk of liner arrived, was fitted in the hole and the pond was filled on the first day of spring 1999.
Those trees were also removed.

Moral to the story: Do not take shortcuts. Do it right the first time.
